NHK of America Suspension Inc. (NASCO), a leading supplier of coil suspension springs, trunk lid torsion bars transmission disc springs and electric motor cores for the automotive industry, today announced a further expansion of operations at their Bowling Green location. The company will invest $15,164,000 in an addition that will include a new coil suspension springs production line that will allow the company to increase its production by 20% and is expected to be operational by September 2016.

“NASCO demonstrates why Kentucky’s reputation continues to grow as an ideal location for automotive manufacturers and suppliers,” Gov. Beshear said. “We’re thrilled to partner with the company and are excited about this significant expansion in Bowling Green.”

NASCO located in Bowling Green in 1987 in a 60,000 square foot facility. The company has experienced remarkable growth in the years since, and today the plant operates in 348,000 square feet and employs 285 people. The new facility adds more than 58,000 square feet to the campus and allows NASCO to expand product lines and increase production capacity and capability. NASCO’s products are found in many of the leading brands of passenger cars and light trucks within the major car manufacturers in North America, including Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Subaru.

According to NASCO Sales Manager Eric Stinson, “despite the overall sluggish US economy, the automotive sector has shown steady growth over the past several years and is projected to reach record highs in 2015. Through the years NASCO has grown to become the world’s largest manufacturer of coil suspension springs for the automotive industry and we must keep growing and developing new technology to meet our customers’ demands. This new line allows us to further expand our capability for producing new types of suspension coil springs.”

Additionally, NASCO is the first of many Japanese companies to locate in South Central Kentucky. Since that time, another 15 Japanese companies have located here.  South Central Kentucky now enjoys a fruitful relationship with Japanese industry, even locating an office of the Japanese American Society of Kentucky in the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce headquarters.

NASCO has received numerous quality awards from their customers. In 2007, NASCO was honored to be the first two-time winner of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce’s Industry of the Year Award to recognize the company’s growth to the community.  Their Quality Management System is certified to ISO/TS 16949 standards and their Environmental Management System is certified to ISO-14001. These awards are evidence of NASCO’s successful commitment to quality.

“NASCO’s expansion announcement is another reminder of the value our industries find in locating facilities in Warren County and South Central Kentucky. This company has set the standard for what a successful business looks like. I look forward to their continued success.” said Warren County Judge Executive Mike Buchanon.

“It’s not the number of companies in a community that make a location for success, it is the quality of businesses that thrive there.” stated Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.  “NASCO exemplifies a company that has garnered not only the community’s respect, but the respect of leaders in the industry around the world. I couldn’t be prouder to say that NASCO is part of the Bowling Green community. I look forward to their leadership as we continue to grow our presence in the automotive industry.”

This is the fifth economic development announcement in 2015 for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, for the total capital investment of more than $288,889,600 and the creation of 520 jobs.
