BOWLING GREEN, KY. – March 9, 2018 – Today, Southern Recycling, LLC, along with company representatives and officials from Warren County, the City of Bowling Green, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and Houchens Industries gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Southern Recycling’s newest processing facility located at 2791 Louisville Road in Bowling Green. This new facility will include state-of-the-art scrap processing equipment, which will increase their capacity for paper, plastic and scrap metal recycling for the region.
“Houchens is excited about this expansion and what it will mean to the Bowling Green and Warren County communities,” said Spencer Coates, President of Bowling Green-based Houchens Industries. “We are grateful for the support this community has shown us.”
Southern Recycling was founded in Warren County in 1985 and is the main recycling service provider for both the region’s residential and rapidly growing industrial and manufacturing sectors. Southern Recycling has grown to be South Central Kentucky’s premiere company for industrial, commercial and residential recycling, servicing over 50,000 customers across South Central Kentucky. Since its founding, the company has expanded to employ 117 people across five, full-service, processing facilities.
Southern Recycling specializes in recycling products such as paper and plastic to all grades of scrap metal, including: iron, steel, copper, brass, stainless steel, nickel and nickel alloys. At current capacity, Southern Recycling is processing and shipping well over 25,000 tons per month of metal scrap and recyclables from its facilities. This expansion project will allow for operations and efficiency improvement and much needed growth.

So far for 2018, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce has announced two economic development projects totaling $5.05 million in capital investment and 72 new jobs. Last year, the Chamber announced over $270 million in capital investment and 852 jobs. Warren County experienced the fourth largest number of announced jobs and third largest capital investment amount in the last decade in 2017, representing five percent of all capital investment and 9.5 percent of job growth in Kentucky. Bowling Green was most recently recognized by Site Selection magazine as a top tier-2 metropolitan area in the United States.
