SCK LAUNCH Educator Externships bridge the gap between educators and local businesses here in South Central Kentucky. This summer, partnering with Med Center Health, Logan Aluminum Inc., and NCM Motorsports Park, these externships provided real-world applications of the concepts they teach. As a result, they can bring this valuable knowledge back to the classroom and better prepare students for the workforce and continue to nurture the next generation of talent right here in South Central Kentucky.

Med Center Health, a leading provider of quality healthcare services, opened its doors to educators, offering an invaluable opportunity to see the essential role of healthcare professionals in action. This externship exposed educators to the most recent advancements in healthcare technology and procedures, illustrating how science and math concepts are utilized in the medical field.

At Logan Aluminum Inc., the largest single can sheet facility in North America, educators learned about the flat rolled aluminum sheet process from start to finish. They gained insights into how engineering principles and physics concepts are applied in production processes, equipping them to make tangible connections for their students between theoretical classroom principles and their practical implementation in manufacturing.

The experience at the NCM Motorsports Park provided a unique perspective into the world of motorsports, showcasing how tourism and automotive is a leading economic driver here in South Central Kentucky.
