Bowling Green, KY., The Inter-Modal Transportation Authority (ITA) proudly welcomes Tyson Foods, one of the largest food companies in the world, to Bowling Green with the official opening of its new food production facility at the Kentucky Transpark. This significant $355 million investment and the creation of nearly 450 jobs mark the largest project in the history of the Transpark.
Spanning 400,000 square feet, this facility, which broke ground on February 2, 2022, is dedicated to producing the popular Jimmy Dean® brand and Wright® Brand bacon retail products as well as bacon for foodservice. The plant is expected to output over two million pounds of raw bacon products each week, meeting escalating demand in retail and foodservice.
"The economic success we’ve seen in Warren County in the last several years has been impressive,” said Governor Beshear. “Tyson Foods has played a key role in Bowling Green’s economy for years, and today’s grand opening marks an exciting next chapter in the company’s long history serving the commonwealth. I want to thank Tyson Foods and their leadership for their continued belief in this great state and look forward to their continued success in Kentucky.”
Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman expressed his excitement, “The opening of Tyson Foods’ highly-automated facility is a landmark event for Warren County. It’s a symbol of economic growth and community development, promising a brighter future for our residents.”
“I was pleased to attend Tyson Foods grand opening ceremony to celebrate their economic success and investment in Warren County. This landmark grand opening in our southcentral Kentucky community will bring more than 450 jobs to the area and demonstrates the crucial partnership Tyson Foods has with our community. Warren County and our Second District has become not only a historic region of our commonwealth, but is a shining example of economic development and innovation,” said Congressman Guthrie.
Mayor Todd Alcott of Bowling Green added, “Tyson Foods’ decision to build this advanced facility here is a significant vote of confidence in our community. This plant not only brings new jobs but also reinforces Bowling Green’s reputation as a desirable location for leading global companies.”
The facility will generate nearly 450 new jobs, contributing to the local economy and workforce development. Tyson Foods has partnered with Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) to establish training programs that will equip the workforce with the skills needed in modern food production.
The Bowling Green plant is one of the company's most automated operations to date. It combines high-tech robots that eliminate ergonomically stressful tasks such as transporting large pork bellies along multiple production lines, packing and stacking boxes, and safely moving product through production zones with driverless forklifts and autonomous guide vehicles (AGVs).
Donnie King, president and CEO of Tyson Foods, emphasized the strategic importance of the new facility. “Our Bowling Green plant is a testament to Tyson Foods’ commitment to accelerating long-term growth aligned with consumer trends. We chose Bowling Green, Kentucky to support our growth strategy for Prepared Foods, need for a skilled workforce, and desire to partner with a growing and supportive local community,” said King.
Ron Bunch, president and CEO of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “The official opening of Tyson Foods’ facility is a landmark moment for Bowling Green and plethora of great jobs; it's a major step forward in growing our food manufacturing sector in the region and diversifying our local economy with a world class company.”
