This year Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce celebrates a remarkable milestone for one of our community’s most beloved programs. In 1985, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce established the inaugural Leadership Bowling Green class. What began with just 11 participants has grown into a transformative program that has shaped thousands of leaders across our region.
A Legacy of Leadership
From the very first class—which included a future Bowling Green Mayor, university leaders, business owners, and community builders—Leadership Bowling Green has been committed to cultivating leaders who understand and serve their community.
What started small has grown significantly: today, more than 30 emerging leaders complete the program each year. Participants spend nine months immersed in learning and gaining firsthand insight into Bowling Green’s key industries and institutions.
Immersive Community Experience
Each monthly session introduces participants to a different sector—agriculture, business, education, government, health care, justice, media, arts, and more—through unique behind-the-scenes experiences. Tours and on-site learning create powerful moments of discovery, while alumni and local experts ensure every class is meaningful and impactful.
Giving Back Through Service
Another vital component of the program: community service projects. Classes have partnered with local nonprofits to make lasting impacts—whether it’s painting facilities, gathering food donations, or building walking trails. These projects continue to demonstrate the program’s enduring commitment to service and collaboration.
A Community Built by Alumni
Today, hundreds of Leadership Bowling Green graduates are making a difference as business leaders, educators, nonprofit directors, and civic champions. Their collective impact has helped make Bowling Green a stronger, more vibrant community.
