For nearly a decade, SCK LAUNCH – which stands for South Central Kentucky Learning About Unique and New Careers Here – has been helping area students see what is possible right here at home. What began as an effort to introduce students to local career opportunities has grown into an important part of the region’s workforce pipeline, connecting thousands of students with businesses, career pathways and the people behind the jobs that keep South Central Kentucky moving forward.
“When we connect students with local businesses and industries, we help them see the possibilities for their future right here in our community,” said Sandra Baker, Senior Vice President of Education, Talent and Workforce for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce. “Through career shadowing, 8th grade experience, student leadership, and job fair, students gain valuable experiences, build meaningful relationships, and discover career pathways they may not have otherwise considered.
“By investing in our students today, we are building a stronger workforce and a brighter future for Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky.”
SCK LAUNCH is a partnership between the Bowling Green Area Chamber Foundation, the Bowling Green Independent School District, Warren County Public Schools and local businesses to ensure our future graduates succeed in their careers.
In 2027, SCK LAUNCH will celebrate its 10-year anniversary. This milestone offers an opportunity to celebrate how far the program has come while also looking at what lies ahead. In the last decade, SCK LAUNCH has reached over 26,000 eighth-grade students through its career exploration efforts with around 350 employers participating to showcase industries and opportunities across the region. The program’s annual job fair has helped nearly 800 high school seniors participate in over 1,000 interviews with around 130 employers; and over 4,100 students have participated in career shadowing.
After 10 years, one thing remains at the heart of SCK LAUNCH: helping students see a future for themselves in South Central Kentucky and giving local employers a chance to be part of that future.
